Recruiting Seminar May 20 - 21

The national office of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity will be conducting a recruiting seminar for the Beta Xi Chapter on Friday May 20 and Saturday, May 21, 2005.  The seminar will be held in the meeting room of the Gregory-Hart Research Center at Triumph Seed in Ralls, TX.  Alumni participation in this very important meeting is desperately needed.  Most recruiting seminars are held at out-of-state locations; however, responding to the appeals of our local chapter, the national staff has agreed to travel to Lubbock to conduct this special seminar.  Our chapter is facing a critical time in recruiting.  With thirteen active brothers, Beta Xi is counting on a very successful summer and fall rush.  This seminar will focus on short and long range issues that our active members are facing in recruiting.  Alumni participationin planning and executing a solid recruitment process is essential.  Due to the nature of the program, nationals has asked that actives and alumni make plans to attend both Friday and Saturday to make our time most productive.  If you can attend this seminar, please contact Derek Racca at (806) 628-0120 or via e-mail ASAP.

Alumni Corp. Announces Board of Directors

Over the Pink Rose weekend in April, the Beta Xi Alumni Corporation appointed a board of directors. The alumni corporation has had officers for some time, but our bylaws - and state law - require a board. To fulfill this requirement, the following brothers were named to the board of directors.

Michael Carlson
Bill Franklin
Bret Holloway
Derek Racca
Greg Stenberg

Greetings everyone!  I've posted a notice in the Guest Book and also, at least temporarily, placed an announcement on the main page:  the Beta Xi Forums are online and ready to use!  Click the link in the button menu to the left to go there.   You can read and, once you've signed up, post in the forums.  Start your own discussion threads or post replies to those started by others.  Hopefully this will help us improve our communications.  Enjoy!

I know it has been a while since we actually reached our goal of raising enough money to pay off our lot, but it wasn't until just a few minutes ago that your Webmaster/Alumni Corporation Treasurer actually got off his duff (or more correctly had enough free time to do a little accounting work in QuickBooks) to finally write the check and place it in the mail.  Don't believe me?  Well, your proof is below: and image of the check itself, a still picture of me putting it in the mailbox, a short movie clip capturing the historic moment, and the text of the letter that accompanied the check.  Obviously, for security reasons, I have smudged my signature and the account number on the check's image.

See the "check in the mail" movie!

Re: Beta Xi Lot Note

Dear HRT:

Please find enclosed the remainder of Beta Xi Chapter's outstanding balance on our Greek Circle II lot:  a check for $4,221.82.  As you might imagine, I am proud to send you, albeit late, this check.  It is the achievement of one of Beta Xi's longstanding goals, and moves us one step closer to achieving an even loftier goal:  building a lodge on this property that is finally paid off.  We realize that the building of a structure on this property is a huge undertaking and will take huge commitments, both financial and personal, on the part of Beta Xi alumni and actives.  We also realize that this is a goal that will not happen overnight.  We hope that you will provide us with guidance and wisdom as we embark on the journey towards building a lodge, and we will be tapping your knowledge and experience on these matters in the near future.

Fraternally,

Greg Stenberg
Beta Xi 142
Treasurer

Enclosure

So, as you can see beyond the shadow of a doubt, the check really IS in the mail!  Thanks a million (or at least 4,221.82) to all of the brothers who have contributed to this effort over the last fifteen or so years.  And congratulations!

Before we get to the good news, I have posted a few pictures from Retreat 2003.  Check them out!  Now...

Guys!!!  We MADE IT!!!!!  Thanks to the hard work and dedication of so many, we've finally collected enough to pay off all of our debt to Nationals.  And yes, that includes our lot on Greek Circle II!!!  See the list of those who have donated recently here.  However, I don't think I need to remind you that we're not done yet.  Just because we've reached this milestone doesn't mean that we can all just sit back on our laurels and pat ourselves and each other on the back. Below is an e-mail from Bret Holloway (Pin 202) that I think describes the situation best:

Ok guy's here's the deal.  We are on fire with all of the fund raising.   KEEP UP THE GENEROSITY.  I know everyone is excited to be making some progress after all of the years of "Sitting on our asses" (Scott Hays # 52).  We have now raised enough to pay nationals for the lot in Greek circle.  That is amazing!!!!   Now for me to interject.  If we truly want to see some motion for a new lodge to proudly display our letters, then we need to DIG DEEP.  Every penny counts.   If you can contribute $10 or $1000 we can use it.  For us to move forward the active chapter has to be in excellent standing with nationals.  Currently the active chapter has $3016.00 in its account.  They owe current liabilities of $1,300.00 for Semi-Annual dues, and $2,200.00 for Insurance.  So the short and dirty of it is that they are still $484.00 short on just what they owe nationals currently.   There is also some back debt, but we will address that at a later date when I have more details and hopefully a plan.
So while things are going good, we still need to keep moving forward.  I have gathered a group of local alumni to form a Finance Committee.  We met on Monday night and each left with a list of brothers to call and ask for money.   So be ready to receive a call in the next few days.  Remember EVERY PENNY COUNTS.   We don't expect for everyone to give us all of their savings, but if we rally together and each do what we can, then we can get into the good graces of nationals and finally get the lodge we have always wanted.

Well said, Bret.  Guys, this is all something that we all need to be thinking about!   Want to donate?  Follow the Dues/Donate link to the left and follow the link to PayPal.

Once again, great work everyone! I will post another message here when I've actually sent the checks to Nationals.

We've made some additions and enhancements to the web site!  Most exciting is the addition of a link to PayPal.  This will allow anyone to securely donate money or pay their alumni dues to the Alumni Corporation.  Work is still underway for other enhancements.

Also, we are so close to getting our lot paid off!  Use that new link to make a donation so that we can get that debt retired and move on!  As of this writing, we need $1,071.95 to not only get the lot paid off, but also to be completely out of debt!  Make your contribution today!  Thanks!

As you can see, the Beta Xi website has a new look and feel!  I hope you enjoy it, and I hope it is more useful to you than the previous version.  I know that most of the content here is pretty much the same as what you saw at the other site; however, I have made a change to the server scripting engine and enhanced the functionality somewhat of the guest book.  Making these changes has laid the groundwork for me to add even more functionality to the site, including online viewing and maintenance of brother address and phone number information.  I am in the process of developing the database and front-end for that, as well as researching various ways to secure that data via encryption, user ID and password.  Stay tuned!
